Auburn Baseball 2018 Signing Class: Garrett Wade

AUBURN, Ala. - With early signing period starting last Wednesday, head coach Butch Thompson and the Auburn baseball program will begin to announce the 2018 signing class, which includes some of the top talent from Alabama, Georgia and around the country.

"I would like to sincerely thank the student-athletes and their families for believing in Auburn University and our entire staff for the tireless work of putting together another outstanding group for Auburn baseball," Thompson said. "Our recruiting coordinator, Karl Nonemaker, deserves a huge tip of the cap. He has done a remarkable job in a very short period of time to connect and wrap up this recruiting class."

Each member of the class will be highlighted over the next month or so, and releases will be planned for Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week until all are signees are accounted for.

The class marks the second full recruiting cycle for Thompson, whose 2017 class was tabbed the fourth best in the country by D1 Baseball.

"In putting this class together, we followed the guideline of meeting specific needs with a `Gideon's Army' approach," Thompson added. "This class includes two of the top junior college arms in America, five left-handed pitchers and a half-dozen athletes that have played the middle of the field."

Left-handed pitcher Garrett Wade is the first member of the Tigers' class to be announced.

Plays at Hartselle (Ala.) High School for coach William Booth ... ranked the No. 1 left-hander in Alabama and No. 7 lefty in the country by Perfect Game ... also tabbed the No. 2 overall player in the state and No. 65 player in the nation ... was named a 2017 Under Armour All-American and got an inning of action in the game played at Wrigley Field last summer ... was also selected to represent the North All-Stars in the AHSAA North-South All-Star Games, where he helped lead his team to a series sweep against the South All-Stars ... summer team is the East Cobb Astros ... named all-area honorable mention as a wide receiver on the football team ... also played varsity basketball as a sophomore ... son of Michael and Kelly Wade ... has two siblings, Jordan (21) and Brody (14).

AuburnTigers.com: What are your goals, both on and off the field?

Garrett Wade: My goal on the field is to work hard and be the absolute best baseball player that I can be. Off the field, I want to be someone that people can look up to. I want to be known as someone that always gave his best in baseball, academics and life.

AT: How do you see the decision to come to Auburn impacting your life?

GW: I think it will impact my life in a number of ways. I will always get to call Auburn home, which is truly amazing. I also feel that having a degree from Auburn will give me an advantage down the road.

AT: What is your favorite thing about baseball?

GW: I love to compete. Baseball is a constant grind, and you really have to love the competition that comes with it. Also, interacting with teammates and making new friends is something that makes baseball special.
